Year: 2023
My Role: Service designer
Team: Design strategist, client (gastroenterologist)
Challenge
How might we reduce the drop-off rate of patients who need to undergo a colonoscopy procedure?
Solution
A tool that will help streamline and personalize the process for colon cancer screening, colonoscopy referral, colonoscopy scheduling, and colonoscopy procedure.
Duration
1 month
Our impact
Identified areas of challenges and prototyping opportunities in screening, colonoscopy referral, colonoscopy screening, and colonoscopy procedure.
Design Process
-
1. Understand the landscape
Create a landscape of what’s been done and what we know about.
-
2. Highlight gaps /challenges/barriers
Highlight existing gaps, challenges with data access to EPIC and doing it piece-meal vs entire registry based.
-
3. Design service flow
Co-design user flows to identify low, medium, and high-touchpoint patients.
-
4. Design user flow
Design ideal user flow incorporating elements of successful models.
-
5. Identify prototyping opportunities
Automated referrals, operationalizing mailed FIT kits (vs. clinic distribution and pickup).
Next steps
-
Potential observations, interview patients, navigators, and those lost to follow up.
-
Identify potential levers, brainstorm and co-create with patients/ stakeholders, identify easy fixes in EPIC or what’s possible right now, get feedback and incorporate, document actual potential changes.
